Dodgers eye Marlin’s power hitter

The Miami Marlins they add Adam Duvall to their outfield, and that pickup truck could knock fellow veteran Garrett Cooper out of the Miami Beach fishbowl. Cooper’s status with the team is questionable now that Duvall comes on board, according to famed Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson. The Los Angeles Dodgers They’ve already asked about Cooper, popular SportsGrid reporter Craig Mish reported.

It’s unknown if Miami would seriously consider trading Cooper, but it might consider it redundant due to Duvall’s signing. Both players are righthanded hitters who can end up in the corner, and while Cooper was primarily a first baseman, the Marlins have another righthander there in Jesus Aguilar.

If there isn’t a universal DH by 2021, Cooper could end up elsewhere. Cooper, who turned 30 on Christmas Day, has been a productive and affordable part of the Marlins attack for the past two years.

He certainly was one of his best hitters last season, losing .283 / .353 / .500 (134 wRC +) with six homeruns in 133 at bats. His track record of combining respectable insults (114 wRC + in his career) with defensive versatility, not to mention his remaining three years of team control and his $ 1.9 million salary in 2021, would make him a Quality trading ship for Miami.

The Dodgers are known to place great value on players who can line up in a variety of positions, which is why Cooper seems to be a good fit with the reigning World Series champions. Maybe he could see time at first base alongside players like Max Muncy, Cody Bellinger and Edwin Rios, and join Bellinger, Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor and AJ Pollock as outfield-capable veterans on the Dodgers roster.
