Dodger Stadium stops COVID-19 testing, shifts to vaccination site

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Dodger Stadium, the country’s largest COVID-19 testing site, will stop testing for the virus and move to a large-scale vaccination site, the city announced Sunday.

Testing activities at the stadium will end Monday, the city said. The site will be turned over to vaccination by the end of the week, with an expected 12,000 vaccinations a day once fully operational.

“From the start of this pandemic, Dodger Stadium has been home to our testing infrastructure, an essential part of our efforts to monitor the spread of COVID-19, stay ahead of outbreaks and save lives,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. . “Vaccines are the surest way to beat this virus and chart a course for recovery, so the city, the county and our entire team are using our best resources to get Angelenos vaccinated as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible.”

City officials acknowledged that closing the site will reduce the region’s overall testing capacity, but it will triple the distribution of vaccines. They noted that the city will continue to operate eight permanent and six mobile sites, and testing will be expanded on some of those existing sites.

The city opened Dodger Stadium for COVID-19 testing in May 2020, and more than 1 million tests have been conducted there since then.
