Physicians and medical students marched to the National Assembly to demand that delegates scrap Bill No. 525, which amends Law 43 of 2004, which creates the certification and recertification regime for health professionals and technical specialists.

Deputy Mariano López’s initiative aims to postpone the application of the basic certification test of physicians, nurses, dentists and veterinarians until the end of the internship, so that they can meet the state-imposed obligation to perform for two years as soon as possible to meet that teaching period, supervised and evaluated in the public services of the country, and which is a requirement to obtain fitness for the free exercise of these professions.

It establishes that for the professions and careers that pursue undergraduate practices, the certification tests are applied immediately before or after the degree and that they then gain eligibility for the free pursuit of the profession once they have passed it.

It also contemplates that the state will promote internationally recognized certifications so that Panamanian health workers, specialists and technicians can take advantage of growing employment internationally.
