Doctor says Navalny can die “at any time.”

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny could “die at any time” as a result of progressive kidney failure as a result of his ongoing hunger strike, a Russian doctor said Sunday.

In a Facebook post first reported by The Associated Press, Yaroslav Ashikhmin wrote that test results from Navalny’s family pointed to serious problems with the Russian political figure, including high potassium levels.

“A patient with this potassium level should be observed in intensive care, as fatal arrhythmias can develop at any time. Death from cardiac arrest. The publication is being coordinated with relatives of Alexey Navalny,” the post said.

“Our patient could die at any time,” it continued.

Navalny has been in prison since returning to Russia earlier this year and launched a hunger strike several weeks ago over complaints about access to medical care at the facility. He and his lawyers claim he has little or no access to a prison doctor because he has sought treatment for hernia.
