Disneyland serves as the COVID-19 Vaccine Super Site in Orange County – NBC Los Angeles

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim was founded as the first super Point-of-Dispensing (POD) site for COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County and will open later this week, officials announced Monday.

“The Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has risen to host the county’s first Super POD site – a monumental task taken on in our vaccination distribution process,” said Acting Chairman Andrew Do, First District, in a county statement announcing the site. “We appreciate the support of the Orange County Fire Authority, our cities and our residents as we continue to roll out COVID-19 vaccinations across the county.”

According to the province, the site can vaccinate thousands of residents on a daily basis.

“It’s important to vaccinate as many willing people as possible for COVID-19, and we need the space to do it,” said third district supervisor Donald P. Wagner, in the county statement. “I thank Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim for their concerted effort to protect AAC residents from the virus.”

The Disneyland site is expected to be operational later this week, in line with a similar timeline to Los Angeles to move Dodger Stadium from a COVID-19 test super site to a vaccine super site.

The site will still follow state guidelines and only provide shots to people who qualify for vaccines. Currently, the state only allows people who are in “Phase 1a” to receive vaccines, with the group recently expanded to include anyone 75 and older, according to the county statement.

Only people with an appointment and who are under stage 1a will receive vaccinations at the Anaheim resort, the county said.

“Coronavirus has brought both a public health crisis and economic devastation,” Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu said in the county’s statement. “We will conquer both with this super site. Any vaccination in Anaheim will help save lives and accelerate the reopening and recovery of our city. “
