Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is Refused Classification in Australia

Switch owners do not receive Disco Elysium: The Final Cut until this summer, but there are already problems for Australian players. Launched on March 30 for PlayStation and Stadia owners, the Australian government has declined to classify it, banning it from being sold in the country.

They have not specified exactly why Disco Elysium has been denied a review, and ZA / UM has yet to respond publicly. However, given that the main gameplay mechanics mostly involves drugs and alcohol, we can take our guesses, and the Australian Classification Board issued this statement:

The computer game is classified as RC … as computer games that depict, express or otherwise treat issues of sex, drug abuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence, or repugnant or repugnant phenomena in such a way as to violate the standards of morality, decency and decency that are generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.

It’s worth noting that this could possibly be a mistake on the part of the classification committee. In November, Bloober Team’s The medium was also denied classification in Australia, but in that case it was destroyed not long before release and given an R18 + rating.

With the Switch out for months now, there’s plenty of time to rethink this decision, but PlayStation owners won’t be so lucky. We will keep you informed as soon as we receive more information.
