During BlizzConline, Blizzard officially pulled back the curtain Diablo II: Resurrected, after months of rumors. During the online event, developer Vicarious Visions revealed a number of changes that fans of the original game can expect. While the team plans to be the heart of the original version of Diablo II, these new changes should provide a more enjoyable overall experience for newcomers and longtime fans alike. The biggest changes come in the form of the game’s visuals and sounds, which are getting a substantial upgrade. Players can expect new models, dynamic 3D lighting and updated movies.
Fortunately, players who want to switch back to the old visuals have the option to do this. A video showing the two visual options can be found in the Tweet embedded below.

My eyes are still tired of the horrors I’ve seen, but now the classic graphics and cutscenes have been updated? Has the audio been remastered? The horrors I saw then are more evident than ever. I fear for my soul. pic.twitter.com/9IjB5JRRT6

Diablo II: Resurrected launches on both PC and consoles, and players can enjoy cross-progression. The game also includes the Lord of Destruction extension and support for mods on PC. Last but not least, the upcoming remaster offers some quality improvements over the original game. Players can look forward to updated online options, “a shared supply, an updated user interface and automatic gold pick up”. There are also tools to make it easier for players to compare items to those who have equipped them.
All in all, these seem like strong improvements that will improve the game, without compromising the version that fans have come to know and love over the years. Diablo II Long considered one of the most loved dungeon crawlers of all time, its influence continues more than two decades after its initial release. It remains to be seen if Diablo II: Resurrected may live up to the original, but it certainly looks promising!
Diablo II: Resurrected is due out later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.
