DeVonta Smith and Tua Tagovailoa talk about possible reunion at Dolphins

Dolphins are the # 3 pick in the 2021 NFL draw and they have a great need for explosive players

MOBILE, Ala. – The winner of the Heisman Trophy, DeVonta Smith, introduces herself in the uniform of Miami Dolphins reuniting with his former college teammate Tua Tagovailoa, and the idea could be mutual.

“We just talked about how good it would be to come back,” Smith agreed NFL Network after Tuesday’s Senior Bowl workout on the opportunity to reunite with the Dolphins’ starting quarterback. “Not much, but a little of that.”

The dolphins are the # 3 choice in the tour of the 2021 NFL, and they are in dire need of more explosive players for Tagovailoa. Smith, who became the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard in 1991 and only the second since 1940, would certainly meet those criteria.

Smith attends meetings and watches Dolphins coaches in the Senior Bowl, but does not participate in the field due to a dislocated finger sustained in Alabama’s national championship win over Ohio state. He had 12 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns in that game before getting injured.

On Tuesday he wore a black robe in his right hand.

The biggest question about Smith before draft is whether his size will keep him from making a top five. Alabama listed Smith as 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and he declined to weigh in the Senior Bowl on Tuesday. He said he would wait until the Day Pro in Alabama to take full readings.

The dolphin coach, Brian Flores doesn’t seem too concerned that Smith’s size will affect his assessment.

“This man is a very, very good player. You can say anything you want about the size of a man, but good players are good players. We can all see that, ”said Flores on Tuesday. “This man is a very good player. He made a lot of plays in college. He played a lot in the biggest games of the year. You can be picky about things all day long. He’s a very good player, and it was good to meet him. He is also a good boy ”.

Smith played bigger than his mate in college as he regularly found a way to break away from cover, broke tackles in the outfield, and proved enduring throughout his four-year career with Alabama.

If the dolphins want Smith, they can have some competition. Mel Keeper Jr., from ESPN, Smith projects to be No. 2 against the New York Jets in its first trial version, with the dolphins taking LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase at number 3.

Walking back Najee Harris, Smith’s Alabama teammate, is also competing under the tutelage of the Dolphins’ coaches in the Senior Bowl and could also be on the team’s radar to meet Tagovailoa in Miami. The Dolphins have four picks in the top 50 of the NFL drawing (numbers 3,18,35 and 50).
