One of the first things Detroit Lions’ new defensive lineman Michael Brockers did when he signed his new contract last week was to apologize to his old and new quarterback, Jared Goff.
Shortly after the Lions exchanged Matthew Stafford for the Los Angeles Rams for Goff, a third round in 2021 and first round in 2022 and 2023, Brockers told TMZ that the Rams had “leveled up” at the quarterback.
Brockers didn’t expect the comment to blow up like this – and contacted Goff shortly afterward to apologize and explain that he didn’t mean it because it could have happened.

Brockers thought he would see Goff when the Rams and Lions play this year. Then Brockers was traded to Detroit, making him and Goff teammates again. So when he came in to sign his deal, he spoke to him again and apologized one more time, explaining that he was just trying to pump up the team he was in at the time – the Rams.
Instead, Brockers and Goff will be the cornerstones of every success Detroit has in 2021.
“I understand that aspect and as a player you know when you’re at this level you’re a great player,” said Brockers. “It doesn’t matter who you are. When you play in the NFL, you’re a great player and I never want to comment on anyone’s career or anything like that. I’ll leave that to the media and let you handle that.
