According to multiple reports, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is willing to withstand and pay fines in an attempt to enforce a transaction.
“Watson is so buried, I have been told, he is willing to wait and see,” said ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.Stand upI was told that there is a very good chance that he will not be able to show up for the preseason, will not be able to show up for the start of the regular season if he is not traded. He could be fined during that process , but he doesn’t care. I’ve been told the relationship has just gone too far at this point. ”
Fowler went on to say that Watson keeps an eye on a list of teams he thinks are suitable for a potential transaction. Fowler named several teams and specifically said, “Beware of the Denver Broncos,” a team that intrigued Watson.
The Texans could fine Watson $ 95,877 for skipping minicamps and $ 50,000 for each day’s training camp if he persists, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano. If he skips preseason games, Watson will be fined a weekly wage ($ 620,000) for every match missed.
If Watson is really willing to stand his ground and pay such hefty fines, he could force Houston’s hand. The Texans have said they have no intention of trading Watson, but he would create a lot of influence if he doesn’t show up for camp or preseason. Having Drew Lock as a fallback option, the Broncos are in a good position to await the Texans. The Watson drama may not have a fix until late in the off-season, maybe not until the preseason.
