deGrom has crossed out 9 in a row; one of the record

Right-handed Jacob deGrom batted the Rockies nine times in a row on Saturday, falling one short to match the record set by Mets legend Tom Seaver, who held ten in a row in 1970.

The streak started in the second inning when he fanned Josh Fuentes for the first of the series, then ended when Fuentes reached first base on a throwing error by second baseman Jeff McNeil in the fifth.

Seaver set the record when, on April 22, 1970, he fanned 10 consecutive opponents against the San Diego Padres to complete the Mets game. With the nine on Saturday, deGrom tied Max Scherzer, Aaron Harang, Ricky Nolasco, Jake Peavy and Mickey Welch for the second most consecutive strikeouts in the National League.
