Debian 10.8 as the last quarterly update of the Linux distribution is now available ahead of Debian 11 expected later this year.
Debian 10.8 offers the latest stable release updates for “Buster” with dozens of package updates compared to 10.7. Debian 10.8 has a number of bug fixes, security updates for a wide variety of different packages, offers the latest Steam package, an updated NVIDIA graphics driver package, updated time zone information, and an assortment of other fixes / maintenance items.
The full list of package updates with Debian 10.8 can be found via today’s release announcement on Debian.org.
A notable feature of Debian 10.8 is that the project has improved its build scripts so that the release images can now be built “significantly more in parallel” and in turn produce new releases much faster than previous releases. Debian developer Andrew Cater confirmed that the “embarrassingly parallel acceleration has worked” in building the Debian release images much faster.
Meanwhile, Debian 11 is now under necessary build freeze, while the new soft freeze package starts in a week and the hard freeze starts in mid-March. The rest of the Debian 11 release process has yet to be determined, while the stable Debian 11.0 should be released later this calendar year.
