He total deaths from COVID-19 in Puerto Rico today, it has risen to 1,432 on Friday after the health department reported nine additional deaths.
The reported deaths, which were recorded between the December 13-24 period, were divided into eight that were classified as confirmed and one as probable, so that the total in each line is 1,187 and 245 deaths, respectively.
“It is important to remember that any death recorded after the report is issued will be reflected in subsequent reports,” read a health statement.
New Confirmed Deaths:

– 55-year-old man from the Arecibo region
– 57-year-old woman from the Metro region
– 86-year-old woman from the Bayamón region
– 70-year-old male from the Caguas region
– 76-year-old woman from the Aguadilla region
– 80-year-old male from the Bayamón region
– 70-year-old man from the Metro region
New probable death:
– 73-year-old woman from the Bayamón region
“The change in the number of deaths should not be interpreted as if it happened in the last 24 hours. Likewise, it is important to point out that the death report can vary, to the extent that the processes of registration and codification of causes of death take place, which can take several days, ”the agency stressed.
From elsewhere, Health registered 407 new confirmed positive cases, 102 probable positive cases, and 192 presumptive positive cases. Considering that the total number of confirmed cases was 67,426 while the total number of probable cases was 3,998. The universe of suspected cases is 51,457.
The agency stressed that the total number of confirmed cases was adjusted after adding 152 cases with sampling dates from August 24 to December 8. The total of the probable cases was also adjusted after the remaining 43 cases with a positive molecular test. Two cases with a sampling date of 4 and 7 December have also been added to this category.
Similarly, the total number of suspected cases was corrected by subtracting 62 cases with a positive molecular test and one case with a positive antigen test. There were also 127 cases with sampling dates recorded between September 9 and December 3. In addition, eight double cases were deducted from this line.
Meanwhile, the number of patients admitted to hospital because of the virus was 475, of which 87 are in an intensive care unit and 90 are connected to a ventilator. To date, the country’s hospitals have 231 intensive care beds and 828 adult ventilation equipment available.
According to the agency, the term confirmed positive case refers to infections whose result has been validated by a PCR (molecular) test. The likely case is one whose disease positive result was obtained by antigen testing. Meanwhile, suspected cases, also known as antibody results, are those that have a positive serological test and no positive molecular or antigen test.
In addition, the agency stated that a death confirmed by COVID-19 equates to a person’s death with one or more positive molecular tests. Probable death is the death of a patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 through an antigen test or whose clinical picture meets the criteria to believe he had COVID-19 but never had a molecular or antigen test to detect it virus. Suspicious death, meanwhile, refers to the death of a person in which a specific antibody is detected in serum, plasma, or through a serological test using their blood.
