David Letterman receives backlash over resurfacing Lindsay Lohan interview, in which he appears to mock her rehab

David Letterman is getting some backlash on social media over a resurfacing interview with Lindsay Lohan, in which he seemingly mocked her for going to rehab.

The interview came from a 2013 episode of “The Late Show,” in which the star was on hand to talk about her new movie and TV project ahead of a very public bout in rehab. The troubled star had been on and off treatment since 2007 amid a wave of public blunders and addiction problems.

Saturday, a Twitter user named Trey Taylor uploaded a video with excerpts from the interview where Letterman seems to go outside the book and highlight Lohan’s addiction, despite her being clearly uncomfortable.

“Shouldn’t you be in rehab now?” the host asks.

“Aren’t you watching what’s happening?” a seemingly irritated Lohan tells him. “What are you a tabloid now?”

Despite her frustration, Letterman continues to put pressure on Lohan, repeatedly asking questions such as “How long are you in rehab?” “How many times have you been in rehab?” and “How will this time be different?”

At the time, she agreed to spend 90 days in rehab to avoid jail time for a car accident the previous year.

What are they rehabilitating first? What’s on their list? What are they going to work on when you walk in the door? ‘ he asks.

“We didn’t discuss this in the pre-interview, just said it,” Lohan says, looking at someone outside the camera.

Lohan continued, “I think, to be honest, I am happiest when I work and the healthiest and I think this is an opportunity for me to focus on what I like in life and I don’t think It’s a bad thing. I think it’s a blessing. ”

Undaunted, the clip shows Letterman continues to push the actress to talk about rehab and her wild lifestyle. She keeps trying to playfully close the line of questions by telling him they’ve discussed this in the past.

“Really? When did we do that? Now I’m the one with blackouts. I should be in rehab for the love of God,” he says.

“We are here for a movie,” said Lohan. “Let’s stay positive.”

Letterman then tried to kick things off to a pre-planned segment, but the actress snatched his notes from him to inspect them first after the surprising rehab questions. When Letterman retrieved them and tried to start the segment minutes later, Lohan put her foot on the floor.
