David E. Kelley’s Lincoln Lawyer series finds a new home on Netflix with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the lead
Matthew McConaughey starred in the 2011 film adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer, and a series version, via CBS, was dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Now another version of David E. Kelley’s series has found a new home on Netflix with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the lead role of Mickey Haller.
The first season of 10 episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer, based on Michael Connelly’s new series, will focus on the second book, The Brass Verdict.

New protagonist: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, 39, signed to star Mickey Haller in upcoming Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer
The CBS version’s creative team remains the same for the new incarnation with Kelley (Big Little Lies, The Undoing) and showrunner Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife) serving as writers and executive producers.
Connelly and Ross Fineman will also executive produce.
With the cast of Mexican-born Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) in the titular role, the series will honor the story’s Latinx origins.
The Lincoln Lawyer centers around Mickey Haller (Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist, who runs his law practice from the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, handling Los Angeles cases big and small.

“Manuel is the ideal Mickey Haller, as Haller follows in the footsteps of his lawyer father with the showmanship of his Mexican movie star mother,” Connelly shared in a statement from Netflix.
“Manuel adds a powerful dynamic and dimension to the role – one that ties into the books and gives the show a chance to celebrate the Latinx heritage and roots of this Los Angeles-based story.”
Connelly added, ‘The series will be adapted to serve the complex and mysterious arches that fans know and love with a blend of light-hearted humor and a dose of family dynamism.’

The role Mickey would play by Logan Marshall-Green in the CBS version. Mickey’s second ex-wife Lorna, who would be played by Kiele Sanchez, will also be recast, according to Deadline.
The search for a director for the new series has not yet been completed.
So far there is no word on an official release date.
