Dave Bautista has made it clear on social media in recent years that one of his dream movie roles is the Batman villain Bane, but the struggling icon turned action movie star isn’t just talking the talk. While performing at JusticeCon (via Collider) to promote his lead role in Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead,” Bautista revealed that he had arranged a meeting with Warner Bros. and DC Films to more or less claim the role of Bane when the studios decide. to revive the villain on the big screen.
“I want to play Bane so bad that I went to Warner Bros., had a date with them, had a date with DC, walked in the door and said, ‘I want to play Bane,'” said Bautista. “I’m not kidding. They looked a bit like.” Woah, we don’t even cast Bane. ” I was like, ‘I don’t care, I’ll play him.’ ”
Bautista may have to wait a while for Warner Bros. decides to bring Bane back to the big screen. The character was famously played by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 comic book tent pole “The Dark Knight Rises,” and it’s a performance that continues to make headlines all these years later (see Nolan saying last year that critics didn’t appreciate Hardy’s performance enough) . Would Warner Bros. Reviving Bane while Hardy’s work still lingers in the minds of moviegoers? There was a 15 year gap between Robert Swenson who played Bane in “Batman & Robin” and Hardy who played Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises”.
Since Warner Bros. and DC Films are about to embrace the multiverse, it is very possible that Bautista will get the chance to play Bane sooner rather than later. The upcoming “Flash” movie will star two versions of Batman, one played by Michael Keaton and the other by Ben Affleck. There is also Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman” which will be launched in March 2022 by director Matt Reeves. The filmmaker is bringing new iterations of Penguin (Colin Farrell), Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) and Riddler (Paul Dano) to the screen, which certainly leaves a door open for Bane to show up in the sequel. Bautista certainly hopes for it.
Next up for Bautista is “Army of the Dead,” Zack Snyder’s Netflix zombie tent pole. The film will be released on the streaming platform on May 22.
