According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Tuesday, the U.S. vaccination rate has sustained more than 3 million shots a day for two weeks.

That figure is based on a seven-day average of daily reported vaccinations and has declined slightly in recent days, from a peak of 3.4 million reported shots a day on April 13 to just over 3 million Tuesday.

About 40% of Americans have received at least one injection, CDC data shows, and about 1 in 4 is fully vaccinated.

US vaccination shots administered

About 1.8 million vaccines were administered in the US on Tuesday, mostly due to weekend vaccinations due to a delay in data reporting. The number of vaccinations reported on Mondays and Tuesdays is usually the lowest of the week.

The seven-day average of the given daily admissions, which is used to smooth out fluctuations in the day-of-week reporting, is 3 million.

The slight drop in daily rate may be due in part to the ongoing research on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Earlier this month, the US Food and Drug Administration advised states to stop using J & J’s injection “out of an abundance of caution” after six women developed a rare blood clotting disorder.

Although the J&J vaccine makes up less than 4% of the 213 million vaccines administered in the US to date, it was used for an average of nearly 425,000 reported injections per day at peak levels in mid-April.

Government officials have said the country has enough Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to maintain a rate of 3 million injections per day.

US share of the population is vaccinated

More than 133 million people, or 40.1% of the US population, have received one dose or more of a Covid-19 vaccine. About one in four Americans is fully vaccinated.

More than 80% of the over-65s are at least partially vaccinated and 65% fully vaccinated.

Progress varies from country to country. In one state, New Hampshire, more than half of the residents have received at least one shot, and Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts are on track to hit 50% in the coming days.

More than 40% of residents are at least partially vaccinated in 24 states and Washington, DC

In Mississippi and Alabama, only 30% of residents have been given a chance, and that figure is 31% in Louisiana and 32% in Tennessee.

American Covid cases

The US reports an average of 63,800 new infections daily, based on a weekly average of data maintained by Johns Hopkins University. That level has been on a downward trend in recent days, but is above the most recent low of 53,600 average daily cases recorded at the end of March.

American Covid deaths

About 700 daily Covid deaths are reported in the US, based on a seven-day average of Hopkins data, below the peak levels of about 3,400 per day in mid-January.

The total death toll since the start of the pandemic across the country is more than 568,400.
