‘Checo’ Pérez claimed second place on the grid at the Italian GP, while O’Ward claimed pole for the Alabama GP
Mexican motorsport had a historic day. In the morning of this Saturday Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, Red Bull driver, secured second place in the opening flag of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and noon, Arrow McLaren driver Patricio O’Ward took pole for IndyCar Alabama Grand Prix
Pérez surprised on the Italian track and slid to second position with a time of 1: 14.446, behind Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes driver. Max Verstappen, teammate of ‘Checo’, will start from third place.
Pérez’s performance comes after he finished eleventh in the Bahrain Grand Prix standingsIn the race, however, the Mexican managed to regain places until he finished fifth, for which he was chosen as the best driver in the competition.
‘Checo’ is looking for his first podium with Red Bull on Sunday during the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna, which starts at 8:00 am Mexican time.
On the other hand, he also stressed Arrow McLaren driver Patricio O’Ward, who managed to start first for the IndyCar Alabama Grand Prix, achieved what he has done twice during his career.
O’Ward had a good start to the season and with 1: 05.847 he made sure to start first on Sunday, followed by the American Alexander Rossi and the Spaniard Alex Palou.
