Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 source code reportedly already auctioned after CD Projekt hack • Eurogamer.net

After developer declined ransom.

Stolen source code for Cyberpunk 2077, the free-to-play card battle Gwent and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3 are reportedly already being auctioned after developer CD Projekt refused to give in to hackers’ demands to ransom money after breaching its servers .

Yesterday, CD Projekt has issued a statement claim that an “unidentified actor” had gained unauthorized access to his internal network this weekend and collected a series of data. A note accompanying the attack gave the developer 48 hours to “come to an agreement” regarding the source code and documents – related to accounting, administration, legal, HR, and investor relations – stolen from its servers, otherwise it would they are going to sell or leak online.

CD Projekt, for its part, promised it “would not give in to the demands, nor negotiate with the actor, aware that this could eventually lead to the release of the compromised date.” It also said it “took necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular by approaching all parties involved.”

Now that 48 hours have passed, it seems hackers are ready to live up to their word. Tom’s Hardware reports (based on information from vx-underground) that source code samples for Gwent have already been leaked online, with full code – in addition to Cyberpunk 2077’s and unreleased, possibly next-gen related files for The Witcher 3 – being auctioned later today. The starting bid for the entire cache is set at $ 1,000 USD.

CD Projekt has yet to respond to this latest development, but advised former employees to take precautions after the leak in a update tweet posted last night. “At this time,” it noted, “we have no evidence that your personal information has been accessed.”
