Cyberpunk 2077 studio denies ‘cut content’ rumors

CD Projekt Red has denied allegations made by an allegedly anonymous member of the Cyberpunk 2077 development team, including allegations that they are planning a massive No Man’s Sky-esque “comeback” revamp in June. The alleged insider’s post has been copied and pasted to forums and re-recorded in videos for several weeks, probably because it gave fans hope for the game’s future, while also giving rubberneckers a lot of drama to gaze at. Last night, the CDPR stated it was “just not true.”

CDPR said on Twitter, “Normally we don’t comment on rumors, but this time we wanted to make an exception because this story just isn’t true.”

Their tweet pointed to a GameFAQs post stating that it reposted another forum post from someone claiming to be an anonymous Cyberpunk developer. It’s kind of passed on, you see.

“CDPR hurt itself to keep investors safe and sound,” the post said. Now developers are hearing plans for a ‘No Man’s Sky’ style comeback that will take place in late June. The first two patches should be released in mid-March, despite what the top executives have said. There will be large departures from the studio in the coming months. Developer morale is at an all-time down and Sony is toasting due to the sheer number of refund requests. “

The post also claimed that huge parts of the game were cut off, including a “huge underground part of the city.” It added, “Most apartments with” Closed (locked) “designations used to be lootable, we’ve cut over 50,000 lines of dialogue and I think the June update will bring a lot of clipped content back into play.” And there was a lot of talk about what had changed or went wrong, including changing the voice actor from Johnny Silverhand to Keanu Reeves.

In short, the post gave hope to people who want CDPR to overhaul and expand the game with patches and ammo for those who rebel against their decisions. I think it made CDPR sick. And since lawyers are trying to get a class action lawsuit among investors going, they likely want to get the rumor mill under control.

Sure, I’d like to see CDPR overhauled and expand Cyberpunk 2077. Despite the technical and design issues, I really enjoyed my time in Night City with my new cyberpals (over 100 hours now, says Steam, although that’s a whole lot of time in Photo mode too). I was one of the people who called Cyberpunk one of our favorite games of 2020. And no doubt something went wrong with the making of the game. But instead of getting invested in rumors and hope, I’ll wait for CDPR to actually do it.
