Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has stated that there are no special refund arrangements for its newly released game. While most critical reception for Cyberpunk 2077 was positive, concerns about poor performance on last-generation consoles resulted in a negative response from fans.
CDPR first released a statement asking consumers to be patient until future patches could help stabilize the game on those older console platforms, but also explained that fans were amply entitled to request a refund. In an investor call earlier today, senior vice president of business development Michal Nowakowski explained that no special treatment would be given to the developer from Sony and Microsoft regarding players requesting a refund.
“You have to understand, Microsoft and Sony, because every product released digitally on their windows has a refund policy. Despite several articles that have appeared, things are opened just for us, it’s actually not true. This policy is in and are have always been there. They have not been specifically opened to us. Anyone who has purchased a title on PlayStation Network or Microsoft’s storefront can request a refund. “
That means consumers will have to deal with retailers if they want to get their money back for physical copies, or the PlayStation and Xbox stores’ notoriously tough refund policies for digital copies of the game, although some players have reported having successfully claimed their money back for the game.
However, other consumers have reported that their refund requests have been declined, with Sony urging its users to keep an eye out for upcoming patches that will bring more stability to Cyberpunk 2077.
