CVS gives wrong dose of COVID-19 vaccine to patients :: WRAL.com

– A CFS in Massachusetts is contacting patients who have received the COVID-19 vaccine at their location to notify them of a dosing error.

The pharmacy said a limited number of patients who received the Moderna vaccine on Monday accidentally received smaller doses than they should have received.

Carol Kennedy Hurley said she still shakes her head after the pharmacist notified her of the dosing error.

“You know, you’re just in a bit of shock,” Hurley said.

CVS said a limited number of patients who received the vaccine at the Central Street site on Monday received 0.3 milliliters of the Moderna vaccine instead of the normal 0.5 milliliter dose.

“So I think the basic word is trust,” Hurley said. “Basically that comes down to it, and from the start with this whole pandemic, who do you trust?”

Doctors say, despite the mess, there is no reason for patients like Hurley to get an extra dose, and she can still get the second injection next month, as planned.

“Because we are human, we know errors can occur, especially when we try to vaccinate with two different vaccines,” said Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vasquez.

CVS released a written statement that reads in part, “We have contacted all affected patients to apologize and answer any questions” and “we have reported this to appropriate regulatory agencies.”

Hurley said no one apologized to her.

“They just gave me the information and it was really casual,” she said.

CVS said it has since made changes to ensure future accidents are avoided.
