New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was intensively investigated Wednesday after a former aide accused him of sexual harassment, called on then-Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh to submit to a lie detector test amid 2018 sexual assault allegations.
Cuomo spoke out during Senate hearings in September 2018 about the possible nomination of Kavanaugh to court. At the time, Kavanaugh’s prospects were in doubt after allegations made by Christine Blasey Ford, who stated on oath that the judge sexually assaulted her at a party in 1982 while they were still high school students.

In a statement to then-President Donald Trump, Cuomo said he found Ford’s testimony “very convincing.” He pointed out that Ford, unlike Kavanaugh, had taken a polygraph test and called on Trump to “insist” that the judge take a test.
“Here’s a fundamental fact that seriously hurt Judge Kavanaugh: why doesn’t he take a polygraph? Dr. Ford did it,” Cuomo said. “If he doesn’t take a polygraph test, this is the ultimate,” he said, she said. It is the only powerful evidence that seriously damages his credibility and the credibility of his Republican supporters, including yourself. You can and should ask him to take the test.
“If he refuses, you have to cancel the appointment,” Cuomo added. “It will show at least some honesty on your part. If you don’t insist on Judge Kavanaugh making a polygraph, it will be further evidence that you put political motivation above your constitutional obligation. Don’t support or support a lie. Claim a polygraph. “
Kavanaugh repeatedly denied the charge and was later confirmed by the Supreme Court despite strong opposition. The New York Post was the first to bring up Cuomo’s comments again.
Lindsey Boylan, a former Cuomo assistant and current candidate for president of the Manhattan borough, accused the governor of several incidents of sexual harassment and untoward touching during her tenure. Boylan alleged that Cuomo asked her to play “strip poker” on a flight in 2017, kissed her on the lips during a meeting in his New York City office, and “went out of his way” to touch her.

Cuomo’s press secretary, Caitlin Girouard, dismissed Boylan’s allegations, citing former aides who claimed that the talk about strip poker “did not take place”.
“As we said before, Ms. Boylan’s claims about inappropriate behavior are simply false,” Girouard said in a statement.
