Gladys González, dancer and choreographer, remembered for her forays into Cuban television shows three decades ago, especially the popular “Para Bailar,” died in Mexico of a sudden heart attack on January 13, her son, actor Julio Camejo, reported on his social networks.
González was a couple for years with the late Antonio Sánchez, and both made the duo Gladys and Antonio one of the most famous dancing couples on the island.
Through “Para Bailar” and other spaces, they both gave dance lessons and developed an apprenticeship that expanded into the “Learning to Dance” program, in which they spread Cuban and foreign dance traditions.
“The last of the rumberas, Gladys González, ‘Antonio’s wife’, is dancing with my father again today. I am left with all the great things they have left me. Father, the artist and the person that I am,” wrote Camejo on his Instagram profile.
Until his death, González taught at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
