Cuban actor Frank González, the voice of Elpidio Valdés, has passed away

Frank González, Cuban actor of radio, film and television what was done known for voicing Elpidio Valdés cartoon character, died this Friday at the age of 75 in Havana.

The UNEAC announced the death in a response to its Twitter profile. The official institution did not report the cause of death, although the actor showed significant physical decline for several years that kept him away from the stage.

González started out as an artist for amateur theater groups and music ensembles until he started working at the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT) in the late 1960s as a costume designer and decorator.

His success came as a dubbing artist in several productions of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), and a close associate of the director Juan Padrón. Among his interpretations, he emphasized the characterization of the mambí Elpidio Valdés character, as well as in the feature films Vampires in Havana Mafalda and also in humorous shorts Movie cars

With the group Teatro Estudio he took part in works like Ten days that shook the world Square up the circle Y Romance for FedericoHe also participated in several dramatized spaces on Cuban television.

He also embodied characters such as in Cuban cinema, in feature films such as The other Francisco (Sergio Giral, 1974), In three and two (Rolando Díaz, 1985) and Plaff or too scared for life (Juan Carlos Tabio, 1988).

It also received the 2019 National Television Award and the Actuar Award for the work of your life in 2016.

Actor Erdwin Fernández Collado complained about the death on his Facebook wall: “A star without the recognition he deserved, an ACTOR practically forgotten by those who don’t believe and like to forget. From us, I repeat, our RESPECT and MOVEMENT ”.

“Very sad. A great and total actor left. Guilty of much of my enthusiasm to watch TV, of much laughter and amazement,” wrote comedian Ulises Toirac.

His body will be cremated at the request of his relatives, UNEAC reported.
