CT Residents 55 and Over, Educators Can Now Make COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments – NBC Connecticut

Starting Monday, people over 55 and educators can make appointments to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Connecticut.

Educators and childcare providers and Connecticut residents and workers aged 55 and older are now eligible for the Connecticut vaccine.

Healthcare workers, medical first responders, and residents and staff of long-term care facilities were already eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in the state.

Eligible educators and childcare providers include teachers from pre-K through grade 12, para-professionals, custodians, food service providers, school bus drivers and childcare providers, as well as school administrative staff.

This does not apply to persons who do not have to work locally in a school.

Governor Ned Lamont said he expects Connecticut to receive 30,000 one-dose COVID-19 vaccines from Johnson & Johnson by Tuesday, March 2.

The announcement comes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared emergency use of the vaccine on Saturday.

Johnson & Johnson’s shot is now the third with emergency permit to combat COVID-19 in the US

The 30,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines are in addition to the typical Pfizer and Moderna vaccine doses given to the state for use. That would increase the state’s total vaccination allocation per week to 130,000.

The governor notes that the J&J approval shot about a year after the start of the pandemic is “not only remarkable progress, but another tool to help us beat the coronavirus quickly.”

There have been times during the pandemic when Bradley Airport was extremely quiet and people avoided travel. Now, however, it seems that some people are starting to feel more comfortable traveling and may be ready to escape the cold.
