(R-Texas) on Sunday called on critics of his contesting the results of the presidential election to “tone down the rhetoric.”

“I think everyone needs to calm down,” Cruz, who led a group of 11 GOP senators on Saturday who said they would contest the results of the presidential election in several states, said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“I think we need to tone down the rhetoric. This is already a fleeting situation. It’s like a tinderbox and burning matches are thrown in, ”Cruz said.

Cruz criticized “exaggeration” and “angry language” in response to his Saturday statement, accusing the Democrats of “insisting that I be arrested and tried for sedition and treason.”

‘That doesn’t help … at a time when we compete. Just relax, and let’s do our job, ”he said. “We have a responsibility to comply with the law.”
