Criminal rents car, robs bank, then returns to buy BMW

A man admitted to federal bank robbery after renting a car from a car dealer, driving it to a bank, robbing that bank, and then driving back with the money to try to buy a BMW.

50-year-old Eric Dion Warren was sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting his daring – if not so thoughtful – crime.

The incident took place in 2019, when Warren drove the dealer’s loan car to a bank near Lubbock, Texas.

Once he arrived, he put a bag from a fast food restaurant on the counter and handed the cashier a note saying, “This is a fucking robbery. Play with me and die. I want $ 10,000 in 50 and 100 dollar bills now. 1 minute or I’ll kill you. “

He later pulled out what looked like a gun and said to the bank clerk, “I’m not playing around, I just want 100’s and 50’s.”

According to prosecutors, the bank clerk gave him the money in the bag, as well as a roll of $ 20 bills with registered serial numbers.

He then returned his $ 5,086 to the same car dealer where he was in the process of buying a black BMW car.

The follow-up team said, “Mr. Warren started waving the money he had illegally obtained from the bank robbery to employees of the car dealer.”

It’s not the smartest move ever, is it?

Things started to fall apart for Warren when authorities contacted the car dealer fifteen minutes later to tell them about the getaway car, which had number plates registered with them.

The police then showed up at the dealer and found Warren, with the money, as well as a bullet gun that had been modified to look just like a real gun.

He pleaded guilty to the crime in August.

The official release detailing the crime reads, “Mr. Warren was arrested with $ 5,086 in cash.

The serial numbers of the money found on Mr. Warren’s person were compared with the numbers of the accounts stolen from the AIM bank.

Police also found a painted bullet gun, which looked like a real handgun, about 10 feet away from Mr. Warren at the time of his arrest.

“The question letter given to the bank clerk was analyzed and confirmed the existence of Mr. Warren’s fingerprints and DNA.”

All in all, not the smartest idea this man has ever had.
