Citi Field was set to open this week as a 24/7 mass vaccination site, but NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed on Monday that the opening is now on hold.
The mega sites at Yankee Stadium and Empire Outlets are also on hold.
New York City has administered 628,831 doses to date, de Blasio said, with 19,032 first doses remaining.
The city expects 107,825 restocking doses this week. NYC will have the capacity to vaccinate 500,000 people per week, the mayor said, once supplies are replenished.
When it comes to other sites, such as the state-run Javits Center, there are still a few appointments available, but very few given current demand and the rate at which the state has vaccinated New Yorkers.
New York City locations that no longer make appointments include Jones Beach – Field 3, State Fair Expo Center, SUNY Albany, Westchester County Center, SUNY Stony Brook University Innovation and Discovery Center, Aqueduct Racetrack – Racing Hall, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, University at Buffalo South Campus and Rochester Dome Arena.
SUNY Potsdam Field House and Plattsburgh International Airport still have appointments available.
The new White House administration has made no promises.
“I have nothing for you to prioritize,” said White House press secretary Jen Psaki. “That’s something our team works through and we want to make sure we work closely together to ensure that we work closely with governors across the country to do it effectively.”
Meanwhile, due to falling COVID rates in our region, the governor has not yet said how, but says he will reverse restrictions on businesses starting Wednesday.
“I think New Yorkers were smart about it, which is why you’ve seen the positivity rate not go up like other places,” said Cuomo. “I think we’re in a new place now, we can start tweaking that valve and start opening up more economic activity and reducing some of the constraints and reducing some of the microcluster zones, orange zones, etc.”
250,000 doses are on their way to New York State this week, and New York City will be assigned 107,000 of those doses.

Cuomo is also working to make sure the vaccine reaches hard-hit minority communities.
A recent poll found that 40 percent of black Americans have reservations about the vaccine.

On Sunday, the governor sent a recorded message to the black churchgoers.
“We all have to trust the vaccine,” said Cuomo. “I know there is skepticism about the administration. And I know that there is especially skepticism about the Trump administration. Don’t get me wrong: I didn’t trust many of the Trump administration’s actions. But this vaccine was rated by the best. doctors and hospitals and researchers in upstate New York, and it’s safe. “
The shortage of doses has consequences for the FDNY, which on Monday suspends the first dose of vaccinations for its members due to dwindling supply.
About 7,000 members have received the starting dose. The department will resume vaccinations as soon as she receives more doses.
