COVID-19 vaccine was available to anyone 18 and older at Orlando jazz event, commissioner says

ORLANDO, Fla. – According to city commissioner Bakari Burns, a vaccine from Johnson and Johnson was available Saturday for everyone 18 years and older at Jazz in the Park in Orlando.

“If you are 18 or older, you can get vaccinated,” said Commissioner Bakari Burns.

Burns said this in a Facebook Live post at around 5:30 am in the video. He made this message on Saturday around 1.13 pm. About three hours later, Burns clarified his statement, saying everyone 18 and older with comorbidities.

News 6 spoke to people under 40 who did receive a COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday.

Tickets to the event at Bill Frederick Park sold out earlier this week, Burns’s Facebook page said.

“We should all consider getting the vaccine if you haven’t already,” Burns said.

Burns said the shots were carried out by crews from the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Starting Monday, everyone 50 and older is eligible for a Florida coronavirus vaccine.

Also starting Monday, anyone 40 and older can get a vaccine at the Orange County Convention Center.

250 vaccine doses were available at the event.
