COVID-19 Vaccine for San Diegans 65+ Coming Soon | News

San Diegans aged 65 and older are the next priority group for vaccination with COVID-19. However, due to the limited dose range in the region, few health care providers have a vaccine available for their patients in this group.

San Diegans in this age group may be able to be vaccinated if their healthcare providers have doses available.

The province plans to make the vaccine available to more people if more doses are delivered in the region.

Currently, the only people to be vaccinated are the 620,000 healthcare professionals and other priority groups in Phase 1A. Vaccinations for the more than 600,000 people in Phase 1B, including those 65 and older, will become available later this month, provided vaccination doses for COVID-19 are available.

“We understand that older San Diegans want to be vaccinated, but right now there is a very limited number of doses for people 65 and older,” said Eric McDonald, MD, MPH, medical director of Epidemiology and Immunization Services at County Health and Human Services Bureau. “We ask San Diegans to be patient, more vaccines are expected in the region soon.”

When County sites San Diegans 65 and older begin to vaccinate, the public will be informed in a number of ways, including at coronavirus-sd.com/vaccine.

The region expects the arrival of more COVID-19 vaccine doses, but a number and date have not been released by the California Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The “Vaccination Super Station” that opened this week in Petco Park is currently only accessible to health professionals and requires an appointment.

Beginning in February, the district plans to open three more vaccination superstations in other parts of the region, and the people in Phase 1B are expected to reach appointments by the end of January.
