Spain is creating a register of people who refuse to receive a COVID-19 vaccination and will share it with other member states of the European Union, Health Minister Salvador Illa told broadcaster La Sexta on Monday.
The big picture: According to Johns Hopkins, Spain is the fourth European country to surpass more than 50,000 deaths from the corona virus on Monday, after the United Kingdom, Italy and France. Nearly 1.9 million cases have been confirmed. Illa said vaccinations are free and not mandatory. Data on those who refuse vaccination will not be made public “and it will be done with the utmost respect for data protection,” he added.
Flashback: Spain becomes the first country in Western Europe with more than 1 million COVID-19 cases
