COVID-19 cases in health workers are on the rise

MADISON, Delete. (WMTV) – The number of COVID-19 cases among Wisconsin health workers has risen in the past two weeks, the state’s top health agency notes.

The Department of Health Services reports Monday that there were 42 health professionals who experienced COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for the virus on the week of March 28.

In the weeks leading up to March 21 and March 14, there were 33 and 25 workers respectively with this criterion.

DHS confirmed a total of 402 new COVID-19 cases in the state on Monday, although cases are usually reported lower on the first workday of the week.

The seven-day moving average has risen further this week and now stands at 789. This is the highest the seven-day average since it was reported in 806 cases on Feb. 13.

Since the pandemic began, 585,710 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Wisconsin.

Thirty-four state residents were hospitalized for COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total hospital admissions to 288. This means that 47 more patients were hospitalized this week than last week, and 76 more cases than last month.

There are also 72 patients in the ICU.

Three people died on Monday from COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 6,680.

Nearly 400,000 COVID-19 vaccines were administered last week

394,345 COVID-19 vaccines were administered last week, which is the highest week for vaccinations in Badger State.

So far this week, the DHS reports that 9,195 doses have been administered.

Nearly 25% of people in the state have completed their series of vaccinations, while just over 37% have received at least one dose.

Nearly 10% more women have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine compared to men in the state, at 41.4% and 32.8%. For those who have completed their vaccine series, women are at 28.4% and men at 20.2%. Women in Wisconsin have been consistently ahead of men when it comes to vaccinations in recent months.

Nearly half of Dane County residents have received at least one injection, and nearly 32% have completed their series of vaccinations. The only other counties in South Central Wisconsin to exceed 40% for the first doses are Green and Iowa counties.

Dodge County has also reached three in 10 residents who received at least one COVID-19 shot on Monday, meaning all counties in the South Central region now have at least 30% for first doses.
