Covid-19: 116 New Cases, 871 Active Cases – Premier Says People Ignore Advice – The Royal Gazette

Updated: April 11, 2021 8:35 AM

The island has set a new daily record for positive coronavirus cases, with 116 cases from 1,634 tests.

The latter result yields a 7.1 percent positivity rate for the virus.

The increase means there have been 370 new cases in just five days, and there are now 871 people with the coronavirus on the island, which is 49.1 percent of all recorded cases since the pandemic started last March.

Twenty-eight people are in the hospital for the disease, two more than the last update, and six people are still in intensive care.

There are 20 new cases classified as local transmission with known contacts, and 91 cases under investigation – in residents with no known links to other sources and no recent travel history.

Five of the new cases are from overseas, with two residents arriving from Atlanta last Saturday and testing positive on day four.

Three residents who returned from Boston, New York and London on March 30 were all found to be infected during their Day 8 tests.

24 fixes have been performed since the last update.

The latest update brings the island’s number of active cases to 871, of which 843 are under public health surveillance.

Kim Wilson, the health secretary, warned that “voice notes and messages circulating in the community alarm people.”

She added, “I’ll say again, if you have any questions about getting the Covid-19 vaccine, talk to your doctor.

Go to trusted sources of information, coronavirus.gov.bm, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, the World Health Organization or Public Health England are some of the sites that provide current, accurate information.

“We must continue to work together to stop the spread of the coronavirus and protect our most vulnerable citizens.”

Mrs. Wilson called on anyone who was feeling unwell to stay at home, see their doctor, and schedule an appointment for a test.

Now that the island is in phase 3 of its vaccination program, she is urging anyone not registered to sign up for the shot – and wear a proper mask cover when visiting the vaccination center.

In a series of tweets, Prime Minister David Burt said that the “number of new cases is alarming and is caused by:

1) Continue to mix households contrary to advice.

2) High dispersion in workplaces (b4 working remotely) where people did not wear masks that spread infections (cause of the current high number of Wed’s tests). “

This Sunday, the Covid-19 Call Center phone lines will close early at 3 p.m. for an upgrade.

Anyone with questions can send an email to [email protected].

For assistance with travel permits, email [email protected].

Telephone lines are back to normal on Monday at 9:00 am.
