County – NBC 7 San Diego

San Diego County has announced that residents 65 and older can now apply to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the county vaccination sites.

The county says those who qualify should contact their doctor or medical provider first. If they can’t get a COVID-19 vaccine from their doctor, they can use one of the county sites.

Only health workers and people 65 and older can visit vaccination sites, the province said.

San Diegans can make arrangements at the super site in Petco Park and other provincial locations where the shot will be given. Appointments are required; walk-ups and drive-ups without an appointment will be rejected.

“As I pointed out a few weeks ago, the district expected the opportunity to be eligible for those 65 and older by the week of January 25, as part of its continued focus on those most at risk,” said Dr. . Wilma Wooten, District Health. officer. “With a number of health care providers vaccinating in the age group and the UC San Diego Health Super Station having a surplus of appointments, the decision was made this afternoon. Appointments are still required and vaccinations are available on an offer. “

Patty Maysent, chief executive officer of UC San Diego Health, tweeted Saturday that there were 700 open slots at the Petco vaccine site.

Until now, UC San Diego Health and Scripps Health were the only ones to extend vaccination over the network to patients 65 and older.

On Monday, the county approved those 75 and older for vaccinations, including those under Tier 1A, who are primarily residents of assisted care facilities and health workers.

Last week, public health officials followed CDC guidelines by announcing that people 65 and older could now receive the vaccine. But because there were not enough vaccines, the province decided to wait until more resources were available.
