Cougar spotted near Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – Some Las Vegas residents are on the alert after seeing a mountain lion in their neighborhood near Hualapai Way and Desert Inn Road.

According to the neighbors, the cougar has been spotted several times over the weekend.

13 Action News collected images of the Ring doorbell of the cougar that was captured Friday night.

“Until 3:30 this morning, I was talking to people and telling you to keep your pets inside and your kids because they don’t just come out at night,” said Patty Fairchild, who lives nearby.

Wildlife such as cougars and coyotes are not an everyday sight, but it is not uncommon for them to enter the city.

“They can be out during the day, so watch where you are,” says Fairchild.

In July 2020, a cougar was seen moving from backyard to backyard in the Summerlin area, west of I-215.

Crews were able to locate and calm that lion.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife says if you see a cougar in a residential area, call 911 immediately.

If a cougar continues to reside in a residential area, the Department of Wildlife will first attempt to release it back into the wild.

If that doesn’t work, the lion can be euthanized.
