CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – The Cosby High School baseball team mourns the loss of player Steele Kirwan, who died after a long battle with cancer.
The Cosby senior jersey was placed on the baseball field in his honor on Saturday afternoon.
The baseball team remembered the teenager as a “great teammate, kid, young man and friend.”
The team said Kirwan was “a fighter like no other” who made them stronger and taught them never to take anything for granted.
Today we lost one of the toughest kids I’ve ever met. He was a fighter like no other who made us all stronger and taught us never to take anything for granted. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Cosby baseball will be Steele Strong forever! pic.twitter.com/XNxClqwH7k

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” wrote the team’s coach. “Cosby Baseball Will Be Steele Strong Forever!”
Kirwan’s father said his son was his hero and his best friend.
The family asks that you keep them in your prayers. However, they asked that no one meet in high school as a precaution because of the pandemic.
