Persons vaccinated in Israel but who are not members of any of the country’s health care providers can download their vaccination certificate within 10 days, a representative from the Ministry of Health said. The Jerusalem Post.
In its extensive vaccination campaign, Israel has allowed people who are not entitled to health care to be vaccinated against the virus, including those who have Israeli citizenship but are not residents.
“I made aliyah in 1997, but I have continued to commute between Israel and the US for work reasons,” a 63-year-old man who had problems accessing the certificate told the Post. “I was a member of the Maccabi Health Fund for many years and I had no problems whatsoever until I was informed in 2015 that as I spent more than 185 days outside the country, I was no longer considered a resident.”
“It was no problem until the pandemic hit,” he said. “My US insurance would cover me in the US and give me emergency coverage here. After Israel started vaccinating, I tried to make an appointment, and they wouldn’t let me in, despite the fact that I’m a citizen and four of my children have fought wars in this country. “
Although he eventually managed to get vaccinated – “I’m very grateful,” he said – soon another story began to gain access to the certificate.
From Sunday and for at least two weeks, the vaccination certificate gives people access to the same facilities reserved for the holders of a “green passport”, including hotels, gyms and cultural and sporting events.
The Ministry of Health said it addresses a number of technical issues and a resolution for non-resident citizens is expected within 10 days. Foreign workers will also have access to their vaccination certificate within 10 days.
