CHAMPAIGN – Applications are now underway for the next round of COVID-19 vaccinations in Champaign County next week.
The following vaccination clinics will be held at two Champaign locations for four days, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm January 19-22, with vaccinations by appointment only.
According to the Champaign-Urbana Public, eligible for vaccinations next week are residents 75 and older who have not been vaccinated in the last week, plus residents 65 to 74 years with underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk of serious cases of COVID 19. Health district.
Underlying health problems include cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, heart disease, obesity, sickle cell disease, diabetes, and a compromised immune system as a result of an organ transplant. Smokers in this age group can also be vaccinated from next week.
Written documentation from the patients’ GPs is not required.
The vaccination site operated by Carle Health at Kohl’s Plaza is full for the weeks of Jan. 18 and Jan. 25. Those eligible for vaccination next week who have not yet registered were asked to sign up for appointments at the community clinic operated at the I Hotel and Conference Center at 1900 S. First St., C.

Those who are vaccinated should wear a face cover and plan to stay for observation for at least 15 minutes after the vaccination.
The cost of the vaccine is covered by the federal government, and most insurance plans will cover the cost of delivering the injection, according to the health district.
As of Friday, the health district vaccine dashboard shows that 9,763 people in Champaign County had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and that 1,837 people had already received the required second dose.
The second dose is given three or four weeks after the first dose, depending on the type of vaccine.
