Coronavirus positivity rate in Nevada drops below 10%

The positivity rate from the Nevada coronavirus test has fallen below 10 percent for the first time since early November, public health officials reported Sunday.

Figures reported by the State Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday show Nevada’s 14-day positivity rate at 9.9 percent. The last time the rate was below 10 percent was on November 3, when it was reported to be 9.8 percent.

Caleb Cage, the state director of the coronavirus response, has said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention want the rate below 10 percent and closer to 5 percent.

The state health service also reported 301 new coronavirus cases and four additional deaths on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases to 290,972 cases and 4,872 deaths.

New cases fell below the 14-day moving average of 377 per day. The state dies an average of 13 deaths per day during the same period.

In Clark County, officials reported 242 new cases and two additional deaths, bringing the local total to 224,469 cases and 3,780 deaths. County numbers are included in statewide totals.

Coronavirus disease indicators have been on a downward trend for over a month.
