Coronavirus in Peru | Peruvian Society of Intensive Medicine: “The ICU beds are 100% occupied in the public and private areas”

The doctor Jesus Valverde, chairman of the Peruvian Society of Intensive Medicine, warned that IC beds have been unavailable for several days. In an interview with RPP Noticias, he indicated that although the Situcional Chamber of the Ministry of Health states that four are available, indicating that this information focuses on COVID cases only.

“In our internal channels we have permanent communication about what is happening in the country. A few days ago we reported that we have no Intensive Care beds. What the Situation Room is reporting are COVID patients, that’s all, and we work on two fronts: COVID and not COVID, ”he said.

Valverde pointed out that the country currently has about 1,800 intensive care beds to care for these two types of patients. Likewise, he indicated that if an IC bed is free, “the unoccupied time is about an hour because there is a long waiting list in every hospital.”

“Our occupation is 100% right now, both in the public and private areas. We know our reality, we know our maximum capabilities that we can offer in ICU care. The strategy we propose is to work in hospital beds,” repeated he. .
