On Thursday, January 7, it was announced that Francisco Lindor has signed a contract with the New York Mets for the 2021 MLB season. The short stop was traded from Cleveland to the New York team, after months of rumors about his future. Along with this news, it was also reported on the contract that Lindor allegedly turned down to Cleveland before it was sent to Mets.
Cleveland reportedly tried to sign Francisco Lindor to a contract worth more than $ 200 million, before eventually trading him to the New York Mets.
According to MLB Network reporter Jon Heyman, Cleveland offered him the short-stop contract last spring even though he was looking for more than $ 300 million. That was apparently when ‘the Tribe’ ‘understood’ that the extension would not happen.
Cleveland announced on Thursday that it had traded Francisco Lindor and pticher Carlos Carrasco to the Mets, for infielders Andrés Giménez and Amed Rosario; plus outfielder Isaiah Greene and pitcher Josh Wolf.
With this move, Cleveland becomes the lowest payroll team in the entire MLB at $ 22.95 million; which is less than what some players receive individually in other organizations; this according to the Spotrac site.
