Constanza farmers are throwing away produce in rejection of the government’s agricultural policy

In protest at the poor agricultural policy that they assure the Minister of Agriculture is developing, the producers of Constanza decided to throw away their crops, an action they took just in front of the institution’s headquarters in that municipality.

They complained that instead of supporting rural farmers, the government is ordering import permits to bring products that are locally produced and that are sufficient to meet the demand.

“It is an abuse, gentlemen, to see how many men and women get up at sunrise to work the land and that because of a bad decision by the Ministry of Agriculture, to grant import permits, without paying attention to the producer associations of our Valley, must be thrown away. The products, with so much sacrifice that they are produced, ”said one of those affected.

The government has recently taken a series of measures to lower the price of basic necessities, which have risen significantly in the markets.

One of the measures is the approval of imports of products from the base basket, a decision welcomed by the president of the Dominican Federation of Merchants (FDC), Iván García, who assured that after the measure some items started to fall in their prices . including garlic, onion, beans, potatoes and bananas.

The leader said the price cuts are related to the decision of the Secretary of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, to grant import permits to all organized trade in the country, which was controlled by two or three companies.
