Conn. Private school employees have access to vaccine

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) – Eleven employees at a private school in New London received COVID-19 vaccinations after falsely identified as suitable for shots intended only for health workers and nursing homes.

Mark Fader, the principal of the Williams School, told The Day of New London that he was informed late last month by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that his school had been classified by the state as part of a “critical infrastructure group. “. be eligible to be part of the first group of citizens to receive the vaccine.

Fader said the school then followed protocols and provided a roster of Williams employees to the Vaccine Administration Management System, which allowed the school’s 53 employees to get on vaccination rolls.

The local health district contacted the school on December 29 to tell officials the initial report was a mistake.

Fader said the school immediately notified workers of the mistake and advised them to cancel vaccination appointments. He said 11 staff members had already been vaccinated. Those workers may receive the second dose of the two-dose vaccination regimen, he said.

It was not immediately clear whether other organizations had been accidentally added by the state to the group deemed to be limited to health workers and those who work or live in long-term care facilities.

A message requesting comment was left at the governor’s office on Tuesday.

Williams is a private college preparatory day school for grades 6 through 12 located on the campus of Connecticut College.
