A young woman who took part in the invasion of the United States Congress on Jan. 6, stole a laptop from Nancy Pelosi, the House of Representatives’ chief Democratic legislator, and hoped to sell it to a Russian spy agency, according to a criminal complaint. from the FBI.

Based on several photos and videos of the chaotic riot in the Capitol, an FBI agent claimed that Williams had been spotted near the office of Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives.

A witness questioned by US authorities, identified only as W1 in the court document, claims to have seen other videos of Riley Williams taking a computer (or hard drive) from Pelosi’s office.

That same witness, who claimed to be the woman’s “sentimental ex-partner”, claimed she planned to send the laptop to a friend in Russia to sell it to SVR’s foreign intelligence agency.

That sale “failed for unknown reasons, and Williams still has the computing device or destroyed it,” the affidavit said.

The indictment, filed Sunday night in the United States District Court in Washington, accuses Riley Williams so far of only “violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds,” but not theft.

Asked by AFP, Washington’s federal prosecutor’s office immediately declined to provide further details.
