Colts’ Michael Pittman Jr. does not give up number for Carson Wentz: ‘I am number 11’

Michael Pittman Jr., the Indianapolis Colts wide receiver, says he is “tied” to his number, meaning Carson Wentz will have to trade his number 11 for something else.

Pittman told TMZ Sports on Monday that he spoke to Wentz after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles last week about how determined he was to keep the number 11, to which the rookie wide receiver replied, “I’m number 11.”

“I don’t think there will be a deal,” said the wide receiver.

But Pittman says there are no hard feelings between the two. He said Wentz had told him he would “probably switch anyway.”

“He asked me very respectfully and I just appreciated him for that,” Pittman added. “I think he’s a great guy because a lot of guys with his status would come in and demand and things like that.”

Tom Brady found himself in a similar situation last season when he shared the same number with Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receiver Chris Godwin.

“I think out of respect for what he’s done, what he’s accomplished and the career he’s built for himself, you should lean into that respect a little bit,” said Godwin before changing his jersey to number 14.

Pittman, a second round draft pick from USC, finished his first season with the Colts where he had a total of 503 receiving yards and one touchdown in 13 games. According to ESPN, he wore No. 6 in college and started his NFL career at No. 86 before settling at No. 11.

However, Wentz wore the same number for all five seasons he played in Philadelphia. He also wore it while playing at North Dakota State University.

The Eagles agreed last week to trade Wentz to the Colts in exchange for a third round for 2021 and a conditional second round for 2022.
