With The Cloverfield Paradox and 10 Cloverfield Lane, the idea of one “Cloverfield” Movie has endured long after release from the 2008 original. But we never learned about it Which story. Which sample. And now, Which could finally change.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Joe Barton, the last showrunner of the upcoming HBO Max Gotham City show, has been hired by Bad Robot and Paramount to create a Cloverfield 2. Unlike the first film, it will not be a found footage film, but it will be a direct sequel to that movie. The other Clover field movies were more ‘spiritual’ sequels, although elements are tangential and possible tie them all together.
JJ Abrams, who along with writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves helped create the first film, will be back to produce, but none of the other guys will join him. (Although Reeves produces Barton’s Gotham City show, so there is probably a connection.)
There’s also no word on which direction Barton will take, whether he will tear down the other movies, use some of the same characters, etc. But for fans of the original Clover field, it’s certainly exciting to think we’ll finally hear more about it the monster that terrified New Yorkers in 2008.
