City of Chicago Shuts Down 2 NYE Parties, Issued Several COVID-19 Quotes – NBC Chicago

City officials closed two parties on Near Year’s Eve and sent seven reports to companies for violating COVID-19 restrictions.

But overall, the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection reported a high level of compliance and a “relatively quiet night” of enforcement when Chicago called in 2021.

City officials said they responded to 21 calls for violation of COVID-19 regulations.

The toughest measures were taken against The Dugout, 950 W. Addison St., which was closed until further notice after police and firefighters discovered a “large overcapacity meeting,” the department said.

The city also closed a party because it was set up in a repurposed auto repair shop at 748 W. 91st St. in the Brainerd neighborhood, officials said.

Four other notices were delivered to hotels that allowed room or lobby overcrowding, including the Congress Plaza Hotel in the Loop.

According to a police spokeswoman, agents responded to the hotel in block 500 of South Michigan Avenue at around 10:35 a.m. and found at least one room exceeding capacity.

The hotel received a warning, along with three others: The Best Western, 1101 S. Michigan Ave .; the Godfrey Hotel, 127 W. Huron St .; and EuroStars Hotel, 660 N. State St.

Ahead of New Year’s Eve, the city worked with the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association to distribute regulatory notices to hotels to ensure compliance with COVID-19 regulations, the department said.

At least 370 companies have been cited by the city for violating coronavirus restrictions since the pandemic started in March. The latest set of cases comes about three months after the city’s ban on food and service in October.
