Citizens consider the resolution proposed by the Council of the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) to be good for taking pictures and fingerprints when activating a cell phone.
In a tour by reporters from the Listín Diario, some were in favor of the measure.
“I find it very interesting because we have a very high crime rate in the country and this would reduce cell phone theft, it is a good measure of what Indotel is taking,” said a citizen who refused to identify himself.
While Yanirys Peralta understands that this resolution will reduce uncertainty.
“I partially agree because this way can regulate cell phone theft, but I also understand that the cell phone system comes with GPS protection,” said Peralta,
In the same way, Luis Alberto expressed his agreement with this new measure.
“It’s a safeguard for someone, at least for those who have expensive cell phones and can protect themselves from those unclean spirits, those unclean spirits who steal cell phones,” Alberto said.
Despite the fact that the majority of the interviewees agreed with this new security system to be implemented by the telecommunications regulator, others are skeptical about its operation and some even call it negative.
“I disagree with the photo, the footprint yes, the photo exposes the user,” a citizen told this newspaper.
Yesterday, Indotel reported that a new resolution will go into effect on Feb. 6, which will be added to Resolution 92-19, to take control of the cell phone register and prevent the activation of stolen equipment.
