The Cincinnati Bengals wasted little time making one of the most predictable moves of their offseason ahead of the opening of a free agency by stopping offensive lineman BJ Finney.
For those unfamiliar, Finney came over from Seattle in the trade of Carlos Dunlap and saw no significant time on the field.
A low-risk addition to a transaction dump-off that cuts Finney frees up $ 3.5 million in cap space. There was no point in keeping him on that number while the team prepares to re-climb the attack line under new (and returning) line coach Frank Pollack.
While the Bengals have a lot of cap space, Finney is certainly the first domino to hit the front. For example, letting go of Geno Atkins will release $ 9.5 million. Bobby Hart cut another $ 5.8 million.
The Finney move was by far the easiest to see coming, probably the first but certainly not the last as the team gears up to face another low season with a major roster overhaul.
